LUCKENS PONIES — LANDS END EC

About Us

Luckens Ponies is a family-run business with over 70 years’ experience providing horses, ponies and animals for film, television, theatre, advertising and special events.

Founded as Luckens Circus by Walter "Wally" Luckens, the business was continued and developed by Ian and Linda Lucken, and is now carried forward into its third generation from our base at Lands End EC. We combine a proud heritage in performance with modern, fully licensed animal welfare standards.

Our animals have featured in feature films, major television productions, national advertising campaigns, pantomimes, editorial shoots and public events across the United Kingdom.

Services

We provide experienced, well-mannered horses and ponies for:

  • Film & Television — accustomed to filming environments, lighting, crew and schedules
  • Theatre & Pantomime — calm in performance settings, familiar with audiences, music and stage lighting
  • Photography & Advertising — reliable, steady and professionally presented
  • Special Events — weddings, openings, community gatherings and celebrations
  • Educational & Community Visits — schools and groups learning about equine care and welfare

All animals are handled by trained, experienced staff at all times. Work includes stage appearances, light carriage pulling over short distances, and static displays — always supervised and never rushed.

Welfare & Licensing

The health, comfort and wellbeing of our animals is our absolute priority.

  • Licensed Status — We hold a valid Keeping or Training Animals for Exhibition Licence under the Animal Welfare (Licensing of Activities Involving Animals) (England) Regulations 2018, most recently inspected and renewed October 2026.
  • Working Routine — Appearances are adapted to each production, always keeping the ponies’ welfare foremost in mind.
  • The 5 Welfare Needs — Every animal’s needs are met in full:
    • Suitable, safe and comfortable environments
    • Consistent, species-appropriate nutrition and hydration
    • Space and opportunity to express natural behaviour
    • Appropriate companionship and calm, kind handling
    • Protection from pain, injury and illness
  • Standards — All staff hold relevant equine qualifications; training, first aid and professional development are maintained up to date. Veterinary, farriery and dental care are scheduled and recorded.

Our Heritage

"Founded by Walter 'Wally' Luckens — built upon by Ian and Linda Lucken — now in our third generation. From Luckens Circus to Lands End EC — over half a century of animals, performance and care."
